Why something did not tick off

baybay matches what you log against the plan by time, and is deliberately generous about it. Here is the rule.

A logged feed or sleep ticks off a scheduled one if it happened within an hour and a half either side of the planned time. Nearest match wins, and nothing is claimed twice.

A row that stays unticked means the entry was further out than that, or it did not happen. Nothing is lost either way — every feed and sleep you log is recorded whether or not it lands on the plan.

A day against the plan: the 7:00 AM morning feed ticked off by a feed logged at 6:00 AM, the 9:00 AM nap by one at 9:22, the midday nap shown greyed as Not logged, and the 2:00 PM afternoon feed highlighted as next in 41 minutes.
The 7:00 AM feed was logged at 6:00 and still counts. The midday nap did not happen.

The rule, in full

  • An hour and a half either side. Wide enough that a nap that went late is still that nap, narrow enough that the 4pm feed cannot claim the 6pm one.
  • Nearest wins. A feed sitting between two planned ones goes to whichever it is closer to.
  • One each. A single feed cannot tick off two rows, so a busy morning does not quietly complete the afternoon.
  • Feeds match feeds, sleeps match sleeps. A nap never ticks off a feed, however well the time lines up.
  • Naps and nights both count for a sleep row. A schedule only says “asleep by then”.

What “up next” means

Exactly one row is next: the first unlogged one that the day has not yet overtaken. A row stays next for 45 minutes past its time — a feed due twenty minutes ago is still the thing to do now, one due three hours ago is not.

After that it drops quietly into the past and the next row takes over.

Rows you skipped

Worth knowing

A skipped nap goes grey and says Not logged. That is all it does. There is no score, no streak, nothing turns red, and nothing is counted against you tomorrow.

A day that does not match the plan is a normal Tuesday. The plan is there to answer “what is next”, not to grade the day.

Things logged that were not in the plan

They are recorded as normal and simply do not tick anything off. An extra feed at 3am is a real feed — it counts in your totals and in every chart — it just was not on the list.

If it is consistently wrong

Then the plan has drifted from the baby, which happens every few weeks at this age. Either edit the times to match what actually happens, or pick the next template up. Changing your rhythm.

And if a row is unticked because you forgot to log it rather than because it did not happen, backdating the entry ticks it off retrospectively. Logging something afterwards.
